Job Description

Unit 92 is a 10-bed psychiatric intensive care unit that cares for involuntary patients certified under the mental health act. The unit is staffed with Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, an Assistant Head Nurse, and a Unit Clerk. The unit is supported by Occupational Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Psychologists, Psychometrist, Addiction Counselor, Secretary III, Health Care Aides, and Psychiatrists. This unit has approximately 24 direct reports. Unit 17 is the Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program (PPHP) who serves both inpatient and outpatients at the Grey Nuns Hospital. With 8 stretcher beds, both Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and IV Ketamine 5 days a week. The unit is staffed with Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and a Unit Clerk. The unit is supported by an anesthesiologist, respiratory therapists, psychiatrists, and a social worker. This unit has approximately 9 direct reports. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse Program and currently registered with a regulatory body. Strong leadership skills and ability to provide instruction and direction related to best practice in Addiction and Mental Health. Must be able to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and support with conflict resolution. Expertise in effective change management, quality improvement, and a commitment to safe, effective, and ethical patient care and work practices is required. Must have proven dependability and accountability with a minimum of 5 years' experience in Addiction and Mental Health.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently. Have strong communication to consult and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in both hospital and community settings. An excellent attendance record and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment record and references. Heart and Stroke BLS Level C Health Care Provider, NVCI certificate, and strong de-escalation skills preferred.
