Your Opportunity:

The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) Critical Care Program consists of General Systems Intensive Care Unit (GSICU) and the Edmonton Firefighters\' Burn Treatment Unit. The GSICU is a Level 1 Trauma Centre ICU and provincial transplant center for northern and central Alberta, northern BC, Saskatchewan, and northern Territories.

Description:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Manager for General Systems Intensive Care Unit (GSICU) is responsible for the effective management of human, material and financial resources, and the delivery of safe and effective patient care in alignment with AHS values. The UM is a champion for quality and evidence-based practice and leads by example. This is a frontline management position, and the UM is expected to facilitate professional development of staff and self, through motivation, coaching and performance management. Essential to this leadership role is effective communication, safe practice, sound decision-making skills and the ability to prioritize many competing demands. The successful candidate will strive to ensure a positive experience for staff, as well as for patients and families.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum 3 to 5 years of recent ICU nursing experience required (including completion of OPACCA or equivalent). Active registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA); responsible to provide proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses (CRNA) and to maintain registration throughout the duration of employment. Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. BCLS- HCP required.
Additional Required Qualifications:

Candidate must have 2 years charge nurse experience in a high acuity care area such as ICU/Emergency. Equivalencies may be considered. Strong leadership and critical thinking skills, demonstrated by the ability to direct other healthcare workers, problem solve and escalate clinical concerns in a timely and appropriate manner. Strong oral and written communication and demonstrated organizational skills. Commitment to patient and family centered care and staff engagement. Demonstrated ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with patients, families, and team members. Basic computer skills required. The candidate must have the physical capability to perform all aspects of the role, including the ability to lift up to and including 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:

Previous Management or Formal Leadership is preferred. Experience managing within a unionized environment preferred Experience with change management is preferred. Previous Unit Manager experience preferred.
