Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Addictions and Mental Health Manager, the Unit Clerk functions as a receptionist and clerk for the Addictions and Mental Health unit, working within the scope that they have been trained for. The Unit Clerk acts as part of the multidisciplinary team working closely with nursing staff on the unit. Key Responsibilities: Receives medical information and directs it to the appropriate staff member for action. Coordinates patient appointments and transportation if needed. Coordinates and schedules patients for a wide variety of tests and procedures related to patient care on the unit. Processes patient requests for health services. Prepares medical files for psychiatrists, and for other specialty services. Assists nursing staff to process medication orders. Assist with requests for health information. Prepares reports for the manager as required. Registers mail going out to other centres. Other related duties, which includes, computer work, telephone, filing, photocopying, and faxing.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program. Additional Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of processing doctor's orders is required. Previous experience dealing with the public is required. Preferred Qualifications:

Previous clinical experience in a Correctional health care setting is desirable. Previous computer training or experience is an asset.
