Your Opportunity:The Peter Lougheed Centre Intensive Care Unit is a combined medical and surgical ICU that provides high quality care to a diverse population. At the PLC we pride ourselves on being a community within our community, where communication, collaboration and teamwork are vital. Our patients and their family are at the center of the high-quality care we give in our ICU. As a member of our dynamic multi-disciplinary team, the successful candidate will be responsible for answering telephones, screen and relay messages to the appropriate personnel, liaise with clinician and bedside nurse regarding patient admission and transfers. In addition, the unit clerk role includes registration of patient admissions / discharges / transfers in Epic/Connect Care. Receives laboratory results via telephone and relay information to appropriate doctor/nursing staff and locates and retrieves patient history / and or hospital and test records from internal or external health records departments. Contacts physician and other related works area's such as DI, OR, ER, PACU and other areas when requested to do so. Prints relevant clinical data in time of EPIC/Connect Care downtime. Provides clarification and information to physicians and nursing staff regarding unit and hospital clerical administrative procedures. The unit clerk is most likely to be the first to greet family and other visitors who often are in distress, therefore it is an expectation that the successful candidate be courteous, respectful, kind and helpful.Description:As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program. Additional Required Qualifications:Medical terminology. 1 year acute medical or surgical experience required. Demonstrated high functioning time-management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a rapidly changing environment. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills through computer, verbal and written means, in a professional and mature manner. Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills - knowledgeable of Microsoft office and Excel. Demonstrated ability to successfully establish relationships with both patients and families and engage them in their care. Experience with Epic/Connect Care.
