About the Opportunity

The Unit Aide has an important role within the health care team. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, the Unit Aide is responsible for ordering, stocking and maintaining all supplies and equipment to meet the needs of patients in their designated work area. An understanding of the basic principles of infection control is essential and key to providing a safe environment for patients and staff alike. This role also provides indirect and direct support for patient care. In the clinic appropriate Care and handling of sterile items is necessary. Supporting Patient care activities (may include patient transfer/transport) and assist with patient and clinic flow. Work with WHMIS and workplace safety standards. Ensure all repairs, assisting with departmental renovations and moves. Act as team player and provide assistance to clinicians and patients and liaise with other support services such as biomed, maintenance, purchasing customer service, sales representatives, housekeeping, sterile processing department and infection control.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 12/GED required
  • Previous ward/unit aide or patient attendant experience preferred
  • Current certification in WHIMIS
  • Basic knowledge of infection control
  • Prior experience ordering and stocking supplies
  • Prior experience ordering supplies in SAP or an alternate online order system an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of cleanliness in a hospital
  • Ability to establish good relationships
  • Good judgement and demonstrated initiative
  • Team player with effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer competency to fulfil job duties of electronic communication & clinic organization and online order entry
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Applicants will be skills tested

Hours
  • Long Assignment, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Approximately a 12-month assignment
Compensation and Incentives

$20.13 - $21.69 Hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
