Underwriting Specialist, Group Benefits Consulting Hybrid

Job Description

Reporting directly to the Interim Supervisor, Benefits Consulting, Technical Services, the Underwriting Specialist is a key member who provides analytics excellence to our national and Third-Party Administration (TPA) group benefits clients.

What you will do:



Data Management

: Preparing and verifying the demographic data and projected experience of a plan, and submitting it to the respective carrier before the renewal

Experience Reporting and Analysis:

Regularly review experience reports, analyze the data, and provide detailed narratives based on the analysis

Renewal Projections:

Estimate future renewal rate changes based on historical data at set intervals during the benefit plan year

Group Benefit Plan Renewals:

Manage all tasks related to the renewal process, including analysis, negotiations, detailed report writing, and presentation preparation

Group Benefit Plan Marketings:

Evaluate the financial details of quotes received from carriers and compare them against current plan costs and details

Pricing

: Analyze costs of different plan design options

Other Projects

: Participate in projects as required, serving as the subject matter expert for Underwriting

What you will bring:



Education and Experience:

Completed post-secondary degree (e.g., mathematics/economics) or a combination of equivalent professional experience and training

Self-Motivating/Independent:

Work autonomously due to the geographical distance between teams, managing day-to-day tasks without constant supervision

Time Management

: Excellent time management skills in a fast-paced environment, able to meet deadlines and work on multiple tasks effectively

Attention to Detail and Problem Solving

: Strong attention to detail, able to skillfully work independently and within a team, with strong organization and prioritization skills. Able to solve problems and is self-motivated

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with a strong emphasis on advanced Excel capabilities, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and data analysis

Collaboration

: Adapt to diverse personalities and communication styles. Maintain flexibility in your approach while confidently asserting your own style to foster reciprocal relationships

Strong Communicator

: Simplify complex underwriting narratives, ensuring key points are clear without omitting important details. Be the subject matter expert!
