What We're Looking For




We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our In-House Commercial Underwriting Team! You'll analyze applications, assess exposures, and make underwriting decisions that balance protection with growth. Work directly with our team to build a profitable book of business. Strong analytical skills and sound judgment required.


This position will be based out of our

Burnaby Still Creek Head Office

. Our office is centrally located in the Willingdon Business Park near Brentwood Town Centre. This location is easily accessible by the Gilmore sky train station with many shops, restaurants and other amenities nearby.



Requirements

Level 2 General Insurance License 5-7+ years progressive Commercial underwriting experience Broker experience is considered an asset Superior risk assessment ability Able to work independently and as part of a team Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Completion of industry-related designation (CAIB, CIP, CRM, etc.), or actively working on completion

A Day in the Life



Underwrite new and renewal business, cancellations and endorsements Provide underwriting functions for all in-house programs and delegated underwriting authorities Build working relationships with the placement and sales teams to increase the in-house placements Grow in-house facilities profitably Follow Underwriting Guidelines and review risks within our risk appetite Audits (prepare and participate with auditors, reply to requests) Participate in renewal process of IHF and in periodic meetings as required Review existing book of HUB business to see if current accounts can be re-written through our in-house facilities Policy Works + Rate & underwrite within the policy works system
Facilitate workshops for Commercial Lines employees as related to in-house products

The expected salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope and level. HUB International is proud to offer comprehensive benefit and total compensation packages which could include extended health benefits, disability insurance, RRSP matching, paid-time-off benefits, and eligible bonuses, and commissions for some positions.
