Scope of work:

Innu Inuit Redpath Limited Partnership (IIR) will be the primary contractor on an underground mine infrastructure construction project located on the east coast of Labrador, approximately 350 km north of Goose Bay. Mine infrastructure requirements include the following for both the Reid Brook & Eastern Deeps Mines: ore sizing & conveyor systems, mine dewatering systems, ventilation control installations, paste backfill reticulation systems, underground maintenance, fuel/lube & wash bays, refuge stations, and underground electrical power distribution. Future mining from the two separate underground deposits will extend the life of this operation for at least another decade. Both deposits contain Nickel, Copper & Cobalt; at peak production, 2.54 million tons will be mined annually.

Job Summary:


Under the Shift Supervisor\'s supervision, the Underground Labourer\'s primary role is to provide general labour support to any and all mine service requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Load and unload construction materials, and move materials to work areas.
  • Assist heavy equipment operators in securing special attachments to equipment, signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance in other activities.
  • Assist in drilling and blasting rock at construction sites.
  • Assist miners in excavating and in setting up and operating various drills and other mining machinery.
  • Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment.
  • The duties and responsibilities listed above represent the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.



Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core \xe2\x80\x93 Full Basic (or other provincial equivalents)
  • Basic literacy (reading, writing, basic math)
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance on machines
  • Literacy level sufficient for filling inspection and shift reports

Health and Safety:
  • Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor
  • Work in accordance with local legislation
