Job Description

Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for an Unauthorized Practice Intake Analyst to join our team in Burnaby!
The Unauthorized Practice Intake Analyst is responsible for tasks related to the intake, analysis, and triaging of files regarding unregistered individuals and firms who are allegedly engaged in engineering or geoscience practice, or allegedly representing themselves as registered individuals or firms.
This role is part of a high-impact, high-performing team doing rewarding work to protect the public interest. The successful candidate would play an important part in improving our enforcement program while working on interesting and engaging files.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Monitoring new unauthorized practice and misuse of title complaints from the public, utilizing strong judgment skills to complete triage assessments, estimate the risk levels of each complaint, and open new files.
  • Resolving low-risk files at the intake/triage stage by way of standardized precedents.
  • Reviewing complaints in detail, analyzing fact patterns, gathering initial information and evidence as required, and conducting email and telephone communications with complainants.
  • Responding to questions from the public regarding unauthorized practice and misuse of title.
  • Identifying high-risk files and promptly bringing them to the attention of the Associate Director, Legal.
  • Supporting proactive enforcement campaigns, including through online research, use of internal databases, cross referencing, and other data analysis techniques.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
The successful applicant will possess the following:
  • Completion of a diploma program in a related area; education in legal or paralegal studies is an asset.
  • 2-5 years experience working in a law firm, legal department, professional regulatory body, or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years experience handling incoming complaints or other correspondence from third-parties in a professional or customer service environment.
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to independently prepare written correspondence that is consistently polished, professional, and free of errors.
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality and manage sensitive situations.
  • Ability to take initiative and self-motivate.
