UG Operations Manager
Position Description:
Hemlo Mining Corp. ("HMC") acquired Williams Operating Corporation which owns the Hemlo Mine in November 2025. HMC is a newly listed company on the TSX:V under ticker HMMC. The Hemlo Mine has been operating continuously for 40 years and we currently have an 11 year mine life in front of us. HMC acquired the Hemlo Mine in November of this year and are planning significant investment into both capital and exploration in 2026. In addition, the decision has been made to move away from a contractor operating the underground mine for us. We will transition back to an owner operator model in 2026 at the Hemlo Mine and, at the same time, we will be ramping up production over the next 12 months to 4,800tpd (up from 3,800tpd today). To oversee this exciting transition and ramp up, we are seeking a proven leader in mine operations.
The UG Operations Manager will be accountable for all aspects of the underground mining operations at the Hemlo Mine site, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of annual production and development targets through strong leadership of the underground operations team consisting of approximately 400 HMC employees and contractors. Works closely with all departments to develop, align, and execute the business plan in accordance with HMC's strategic objectives. Oversees underground production, development, mine services, paste fill, and construction activities, while promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring operations are carried out in a safe, productive, and cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities:
Align with HMC's mission and demonstrates an ownership mindset through all personal interactions with all employees and consistently supports and reinforces HMC's core values.
Assure that the highest standards of Environmental and Safety performance are incorporated within the Mine operations. Ensure that all workers work in a safe manner and utilize the protective devices, measures and procedures as required by Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario's Mining Act and the Policies of HMC.
Interface frequently and effectively with employees at all levels of the operation.
Ensure the mine development, production and other operational activities are achieved to planned quantities and specifications while maintaining a high focus on delivering quality work.
Recommend measures or changes to improve production methods, equipment performance and use of equipment to increase efficiencies across the entire mine.
Work closely with the other members of the Senior Leadership Team ("SLT") to ensure communication around operational requirements to support delivery on our budget/forecast targets is clear up/down and across the operation.
Responsible for implementing yearly budget and life of mine plan.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives for the underground operational performance and implementation of projects that support reducing both safety & operational risk, lower costs or enhance productivity.
Lead, support, develop, reward and hold our people accountable to develop and maintain a culture aligned with HMC's vision and core values. We want everyone to think and act like owners.
As a senior leader in the business enable honest transparent communication within and between departments to ensure success of the business
Qualifications:
Prefer to have B.Sc / B.Eng in Mining Engineering but will consider additional years of experience also.
Minimum 5 years' experience in leadership of mining operations, preferably in Northern Ontario.
Minimum 8 years' experience in underground hard rock mining, preferably in precious metals.
Experience in Contract management.
Strong knowledge of technical aspects of UG mining including engineering, evaluation, and costs.
Understanding of Ontario mining regulation and statutory responsibilities.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Willingness to relocate local to the mine site and lead the day-to-day operations.
