The Opportunity:




We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated UAV Pilot and Survey Crew Chief to lead our field data acquisition operations. This dual-role position is critical to our success, requiring a unique blend of technical expertise in UAV operations, leadership in survey field procedures, and a deep understanding of data quality control. You will be the on-site expert, responsible for capturing high-quality geospatial data safely and efficiently from project planning to data delivery.

Key Responsibilities:




Mission Planning & Execution: Plan and execute complex UAV survey missions (photogrammetry and LiDAR) for various applications, including topographic mapping, volumetric calculations, infrastructure inspection, and monitoring.


Field Leadership: Act as the Crew Chief, leading a small field crew, managing daily logistics, ensuring team safety, and representing Megaverse on client sites with professionalism.


Data Acquisition & QC: Operate and maintain a fleet of UAVs (e.g., DJI Matrice, Wingtra, etc.) and payloads (RGB, Multispectral, LiDAR). Perform pre- and post-flight checks, in-field data quality control, and ensure data integrity meets project specifications.


Survey Coordination: Work closely with the Project Manager and Office Processing team to understand project requirements, establish ground control (GCPs) and check points using RTK GPS, and ensure seamless integration between field data and office processing.


Safety & Compliance: Champion a culture of safety. Ensure strict adherence to all company safety protocols, Transport Canada regulations (SFOC/AC 9226), and client-specific site requirements. Maintain detailed flight and maintenance logs.


Equipment Maintenance: Manage and maintain all field equipment, including UAVs, sensors, GPS rovers, vehicles, and accessories. Troubleshoot technical issues in the field.


Reporting: Prepare daily field reports, project summaries, and ensure accurate documentation of all field activities.

Requirements



Qualifications & Required Skills:




Certification: Valid Transport Canada Advanced Operations Pilot Certificate is mandatory


Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional experience operating UAVs in a commercial surveying/mapping environment. Proven experience as a Survey Crew Chief or Party Chief is a significant asset.


Technical Proficiency:


Extensive experience with UAV platforms and data collection software (e.g., DJI Pilot, UgCS, Pix4Dcapture, etc.). Strong practical knowledge of survey principles, GNSS (GPS) theory, and the use of RTK GPS equipment (e.g., Trimble, Leica, or Topcon). Understanding of photogrammetry, LiDAR, and basic data processing workflows.

Leadership & Soft Skills:

Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills. Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail. Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean abstract.
