UACC Clinical VeterinarianPrimary Purpose:
The UACC Clinical Veterinarian oversees, coordinates and provides diagnostic and clinical veterinary care for laboratory and teaching animals, provides research support to investigators, and ensures regulatory compliance with all applicable guidelines, regulations, and policies pertaining to the use of research, teaching, and production animals. In this regulatory capacity, the veterinarian participates in Animal Use Protocol (AUP) development, and implementation.Nature of Work:
The UACC Clinical Veterinarian reports to the University Veterinarian and works closely with the UACC, UACC Veterinarians (University Veterinarian, UACC Clinical Veterinarians, and Post-Approval Review Veterinarians), animal care staff and animal users to ensure a harmonized program for the delivery of veterinary services and animal user support to the university\'s animal care and use program. They provide clinical care to laboratory animals, oversees and assists with animal health monitoring, quarantine, importation, and surgical programs, and works with the other UACC Veterinarians to ensure that all animal care and use is conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) and other applicable regulations, policies, and laws.The UACC Clinical Veterinarian uses their specialized knowledge of laboratory animal medicine and science to assist faculty with animal-based research endeavors at all stages of the process. They advise on animal use protocol development, assists with development and delivery of the education and training programs and provides research support. Collaborative research opportunities are encouraged.There are considerable pressures in this fast-paced and high-volume environment characterized by continuous change, shifting priorities and frequent interruptions. Competing deadlines and multi-tasking are the norm. The incumbent is required to work within a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision, demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in the face of changing demands, and generate and communicate new ideas and suggestions to improve the quality of animal care or provision of program services.ACCOUNTABILITIES:
