The Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications for two (2) full-time tenure track faculty positions in small animal emergency and critical care. Appointments will be made at the Assistant or Associate professor level.The successful applicant will play a foundational role in supporting and leading the existing referral and primary Emergency Services and advancing the clinical and preclinical curriculum in Emergency and Critical Care. The applicant will work with the existing primary care and referral Emergency Services within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) which is staffed by emergency veterinarians and rotating interns and supported by a team of experienced triage technicians, ICU technicians, and administrative staff. Duties will include preclinical and clinical curricular advancement and teaching in undergraduate (DVM) and graduate programs, providing clinical service in the VTH (approximately 22 weeks per year) through consultative and collaborative case management, developing a research program, and contributing to extension and continuing education programs. The successful candidate will supervise rotating interns and residents from other disciplines, collaborate with existing specialty referral and primary care services for clinical case management, and work with administration on policy and procedure development for the emergency service and intensive care unit. Provision of clinical service and consultation after hours is expected.Services and technology supporting the ECC service include but are not limited to digital radiography, point of care ultrasound, advanced imaging (1.5T MRI, 128-Slice CT), multi-parameter monitoring systems, an on-site reference laboratory and an in-house blood bank. The 24 cage ICU is currently managed in an open style with all services providing primary care, utilizing a collaborative approach to maximize case management.Qualifications:The successful candidate will have:
