DESCRIPTION

The Field Microtunneling Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing tunneling operations, with a particular focus on MTBM slurry machines and mud plants. The Tunnel Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring the successful execution of the project by applying their expertise and knowledge in tunneling methodologies and equipment. This position supports the execution of complex tasks in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a collaborative and supportive environment for team members. This position will be based out of our Project office located in South Edmonton

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers. Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions
  • Prepares and updates engineering control documents
  • Lead and supervise tunneling operations, specifically focusing on MTBM slurry machines and mud plants
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective tunneling strategies
  • Share reports and findings with project stakeholders, providing clear and concise explanations of the data analysis results
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime
  • Conduct inspections and assessments to ensure the proper functioning of MTBM slurry machines and mud plants
  • Monitor and manage the supply and distribution of slurry and mud materials required for tunneling operations
  • Collaborate with the design team to review tunneling plans and provide technical input
  • Analyze MTBM data to identify trends, patterns, and performance indicators
  • Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing MTBM operations, including data analysis, progress tracking, and any deviations from expected outcomes
  • Conduct regular quality control checks to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the tunneling team, including training and mentoring junior staff members
  • Stay updated with industry advancements and emerging technologies related to tunneling, specifically MTBM slurry machines and mud plants
  • Uphold company culture and core values by adhering to Michels Canada\'s Standards and Policies and working with others to promote and preserve our values while conducting your duties to contribute to a positive and professional work environment
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Engineering degree in specific discipline with 4-6 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience or Tech diploma with 6-8 years related experience
  • Proven experience in tunneling projects, with a focus on MTBM slurry machines and mud plants
  • In-depth knowledge of tunneling methodologies, equipment, and construction techniques
  • Familiarity with geotechnical engineering principles and soil mechanics
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make quick decisions in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications and engineering tools
  • A commitment to maintaining high safety standards and promoting a culture of safety among team members
  • Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven, and an acceptable driving record as determined by Michels Review Team
  • Experience with Primavera, Microsoft Project, Blue Beam
