Join our team as a Travel Counselor aboard the CAT high-speed ferry. This role involves working on the ferry route between Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Bar Harbor, Maine, providing visitors with essential travel, hospitality, and accommodation information while promoting tourism in Yarmouth & Acadian Shores and throughout Nova Scotia.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide travel advice and assist visitors with their plans
Create customized itineraries for travelers
Answer visitor inquiries in person, over the phone, via email, or online
Recommend tours, experiences, travel routes, accommodations, restaurants and attractions
Distribute brochures and informational materials
Maintain literature and stock of tourism resources
Provide guidance on transportation and travel, accommodations, and tour options
Perform general clerical and administrative tasks
Track visitor statistics and maintain records
Assist with bingo and ship tours.
Typical Work Day
A typical day working at the Visitor Information Center on board The CAT ferry is friendly, engaging, and focused on helping travelers.
As the ferry travels between Yarmouth and Bar Harbor, the day usually starts by organizing brochures, maps, and other materials to get ready for questions from passengers.
Throughout the trip, you'll chat with visitors, answer questions about Nova Scotia, suggest things to see and do, and provide general travel information.
The pace is steady, and there's a good mix of sitting at the desk and walking around to speak with people.
It's a helpful, customer service-oriented role that gives you the chance to meet new people and share useful information about the area in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

What's Most Important
This position reports to the YASTA Tourism Development Manager. While on board The CAT, employees must adhere to Bay Ferries' policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Proficiency in internet-based tools (Google Maps, Google Mail, Tourism Websites)
Strong written communication skills in English
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Ability to research and stay informed on local destinations
Positive attitude and enthusiasm for customer service
Valid Canadian passport (expiry date beyond Oct. 2025)
Valid Nova Scotia driver's license
Strong interpersonal skills and confidence in sharing information
Willingness to learn, take initiative, and manage projects
Experience in tourism or hospitality (preferred but not required)
Friendliness, local knowledge and communication skills are necessary.
