Job Scope:



The Transportation Supervisor support the Transportation Manager in daily responsibility for planning, scheduling, equipment, maintenance and daily dispatch. Reporting to the Transportation Manager, the Supervisor will support department objectives including fostering a culture of safety and compliance along with engagement and attention to detail. Leading their team of dispatchers and drivers, the Transportation Supervisor makes decisions on routing to maximize efficiency and capacity utilization and identifies opportunities to improve customer service.



Key Accountabilities:



Manage all aspects of drivers and respective equipment to ensure customer deliveries are completed in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Responsible for planning deliveries within Route Planning system ensuring compliance with hours of service regulations. Identify opportunities to reduce transportation costs and improve customer service levels Leading the team responsible for monitoring and reconciling all proof of deliveries daily. Maintaining and publishing key KPI's including fuel consumption, maintenance expense per asset, on time delivery, damages, total kms, etc. Support department objectives, budgets and cost management. Schedule and track maintenance of on-duty commercial vehicles. Work with service providers to ensure trucks and trailers are maintained properly. Ensure licensing is current. Schedule repairs as required. Ensure substitute equipment is available when required. Responsible to file claims against carriers for damages, lost product, etc., maintaining and following up on all claims. Compiling and reporting performance data, maintaining equipment service records, licensing, registrations and driver profile records in compliance with government regulations Lead internal Health and Safety, ensuring safe labour practises are followed through, driver training, and accountability for all standard operating procedures. Prepare and deliver training as per department requirements. Responsible to schedule relief drivers based on company requirements. Work cross functionally on any ad-hoc projects. Payroll administration including scheduling and vacation planning. Plan and coordiante continous improvement activities. Participate in the negotiating of pricing and carrier contraacts. Support teams in problem solving. Miscellaneous administrative tasks and projects.

Qualifications & Competencies:



5 years supervisory experience in transportation, preferably in the Food industry; experience handling perishable product an asset. Post Secondary University Degree or College Diploma or relevant work experience. Strong analytical skills for publishing and reporting on KPIs. Strong knowledge of Ontario's Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration (CVOR) system, including safety ratings, audits, and reporting requirements. Demonstrated experience with Hours of Service (HOS) compliance, including review of driver logs and electronic logging devices. Familiar with continuous improvement processes and methodologies considered an asset. Proven ability to oversee preventive maintenance programs, inspections, and repair processes to ensure compliance with provincial and federal standards. In-depth understanding of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and related regulations governing commercial motor vehicles. Excellent knowledge of transport and warehousing activities and Food Safety including HACCP. Experience using transportation solutions including TMS. Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to work flexible hours as necessary. Leadership and a collaborative spirit that inspire and engage teams to achieve excellence. Ability to act and react quickly while working on competing priorities.
