This position must understand the importance of transportation with regards to the movement of people and goods as well as recognizing the effects transportation has on all aspects of a city including economic development, quality of life, social equity, public health and ecological sustainability. As an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) within Urban Strategies, you will support policy development and city planning by ensuring that mobility and land-use planning are integrated to better achieve City Council\xe2\x80\x99s Strategic Goals. The EIT will work on projects that include supporting the rapid implementation of the bike plan and other related active transportation initiatives as well as help create mass transit implementation plans. Other notable mobility topics this position will assist with include curbside management, goods movement and multi-modal analysis all under the guidance of The City Plan. The development and implementation of policies and direction in support of The City Plan will also be a critical role for the Engineer-in-Training. With a focus on the City of Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will be responsible for: Engineering Strategic Mobility and Related Studies:
Support the development of complex, strategic engineering and related studies for the planning and assessment of the city\xe2\x80\x99s multi-modal transportation network development
Develop, manage and analyze transportation network geospatial data and create network maps for planning and monitoring purposes
Review engineering design drawings and technical reports from a policy perspective
Understand emerging transportation trends and planning needs
Draw conclusions and develop recommendations to support good decision-making
Project and Task Management:
Lead and manage smaller scale mobility projects and related studies and tasks
Work with the project team and leadership to set the scope of projects or tasks
Prepare project documents such as business case, project charter, project plan, budget tracking, schedule, governance, procurement, etc.
Manage and control project timelines, costs and quality
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and manage consultant progress
Communicate the outcomes of a project or task for technical and nontechnical audiences
Communication and Engagement:
Effectively communicate with supervisor and other team members
Support and participate in external public engagement to support projects as needed
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other City departments, consultants and stakeholder groups
Assist in drafting council reports including report plans, presentations and attachments
Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Completion of a Bachelor\'s Degree in Civil Engineering or in a related engineering field with coursework in Transportation Engineering and Transportation Planning
Current registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with APEGA, and working towards a P.Eng is a requirement
Demonstrated knowledge of transportation engineering principles and practices are required
Good understanding and ability to apply engineering principles related to land use and transportation planning, urban goods movements, urban transportation economics, cost benefit analysis, transit planning, traffic operations, and transportation design
Understanding and ability to interpret transportation demand model outputs such as EMME, Synchro, or VISSIM is an asset
Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of a Google Workspace environment using Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms; Experience with GIS software is an asset
Proven planning, organizational and problem solving skills
Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience in solving complex and sensitive issues
Ability to research and analyze complex technical issues and develop innovative and practical applications and solutions
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presenting to diverse audiences
Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated manner
Experience managing and working with internal and external consultants
Ability and willingness to delegate and empower others
