The Opportunity:
McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Transportation Engineer to join our Transportation Division in Kamloops, BC. In this role, you will be assisting with engineering design of roads and highway projects, including drawings, cost estimates, and specifications. You will be working on some of British Columbia’s largest provincial highway projects including Highway 1 widening, intersection improvements and flood recovery design works.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Serve as the client contact, project managing and designing major highway projects
  • Direct a team of designers in preparing cost effective, accurate and timely transportation engineering designs and drawings that meet all client and approval agency requirements and standards
  • Develop concept designs and advance them to the detailed design stage, also overseeing cost estimates
  • Prepare tender document special provisions and specifications
  • Manage highway design projects to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved
Manage and direct the transformation preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans and drawings based on project requirements Communicate and work in an integrated team environment to ensure project schedules, budgets, and quality control standards are achieved and maintained Provide supervision, training and mentorship to junior technical staff Contribute to business development, including attendance at industry events and proposal preparation
What You’ll Bring:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, with a focus in transportation engineering with at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng or eligibility for registration) in British Columbia
  • Good understanding of BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and TAC Geometric Design Guidelines
  • Experience working with the municipalities and the Ministry of Transportation is preferred
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of relevant transportation planning and traffic engineering policies and procedures in Western Canada
  • Proficient knowledge of technical software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, vehicle tracker software)
  • Effective people, client and project management skills
