JOB OVERVIEW

OPG is looking for a dedicated, results driven professional to join our team in the role of Transport and Work Equipment Mechanic located in Bowmanville,Ontario.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Facilities and Projects, the Transport and Work Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for providing service and maintain all aspects of transportation and work equipment (on and off road). This includes inspecting, diagnosing, dismantling, repairing, testing, adjusting, and assembling equipment specific to transport and work equipment, including equipment associated with hoisting/rigging, to ensure efficient operation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Service and maintain all aspects of transportation and work equipment including alternate fuel and electrical equipment.
  • Determine work and parts required, install specialized auxiliary devices and associated equipment to ensure equipment is in service when needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, test components and complete any necessary certifications of equipment or systems required to meet internal and external regulations.
  • Prepare reports and retain appropriate documentation for Ministry of Transportation and OPG audits and reference.
  • Assist in the specification evaluation and purchase of new and replacement equipment. Carry out pre-delivery inspection and instruct users in its operation.
  • Monitor, and work with, contractors to ensure work is performed within cost, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Inspect, repair, and replace firefighting and safety equipment associated with transport and work equipment.
  • Perform functions related to the work group, such as work group communications, procedure writing and assessing.
  • Carry out good housekeeping and fire prevention practices.
  • Accountable for the health, safety and wellbeing of self and others as per established technical/operating procedures and standards and includes the development of technical/operating solutions to problems.
EDUCATION
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent, plus a 9000-hour apprenticeship with a Certificate of Qualifications in the appropriate trade (Automotive Service Technician License 310S, Truck & Coach Technician License 310T, Heavy Equipment Technician endorsement 421A
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Related work experience.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry would be considered an asset.
  • Required to hold a propane license and a DZ driver\'s license.
  • Motive Power Trade qualifications including but not limited to: Powered Lift Truck Technician 282E, Tire Wheel & Rim Technician, Alternate Fuels Certificate, etc.
  • 9000-hour apprenticeship (Heavy Duty Mechanic) as referenced in apprenticeship training for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. Apprentices must complete a 9000-hour apprenticeship consisting of on the job and in school training prior to successfully passing a written exam for their Certificate of Qualification. 310S, 310T, 421A licenses required as outlined in the occupational definitions.
