Purpose

This position is responsible for supporting technical analysis tasks such as power flow, short-circuit, and stability analysis and project support to a wide range of Liberty's renewable energy assets across North America including greenfield projects.

Accountabilities

  • Support technical analysis tasks including but not limited to:
  • Power flow, short circuit and stability analysis prep work
  • ensuring technical input data is prepared correctly for power system simulation software such as PSS/E and TARA.
  • Reviewing and summarizing the simulation results and present them to other teams.
  • Conduct high level design for new renewable projects
  • Perform power factor assessment
  • Perform conceptual equipment selection and parameter calculation including inverter, main power transformer, collector system and gen tie line
  • Prepare interconnection request package including technical documents and single line diagram for various ISO or utilities
  • Develop in-house automation tool using Python scripts.
  • Review and summarize each ISO/RTO's interconnection rule including major technical and commercial requirements.
  • Provide support to the transmission & interconnection team with arranging meetings, preparing meeting materials, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the transmission & interconnection team and projects
Education and Experience
  • 4th year or masters student currently enrolled in a College or University with a focus on Energy Systems (Power system engineering) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent program. Preferred M.A.Sc students.
  • Must have strong understanding of fundamental power flow, inverters and transmission line design.
  • Python scripting skills
  • Must be detail oriented and possess excellent follow up skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to work independently and manage priorities.
