Position:

Transitional Housing Facilitator- Full -time 37.5 hours per week

Hiring for shifts Monday- Sunday:

12pm-8pm

4pm-12am

And hiring to fill a casual pool of staff

The Transitional Housing Facilitator is a member of the Transitional Housing Team; and provides direct services to the participants that live in NEWC's supportive transitional housing program.

Education and Experience:



While education is important, NEWC equally values applicants that have work and/or lived expertise.

Experience providing support to participants who have or are experiencing problematic substance use; trauma; homelessness; and gender-based violence.

Experience working in a community-based setting in the North End of Winnipeg and knowledge of inner-city resources.

Experience supporting participants in a communal living setting is also an asset.

Knowledge of the impacts that colonization, residential schools, the 60's scoop, the child welfare system and the genocide of Indigenous peoples, their culture and language and sacred traditions.

Experience and understanding of Traditional Indigenous teachings and ceremonies.

Knowledge of the resources available in the community for participants experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, mental illness, problematic substance use and gender-based violence.

Knowledge and demonstrated ability to apply cultural humility, pro-choice, trauma-informed care and harm reduction practices and principles in your work.

Skills and Abilities:



Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work flexibly in a continually changing environment while adapting to the needs of the participants.

Basic computer skills and administrative skills.

Non-judgemental and accepting attitude.

Ability to deal with crisis and conflict in an appropriate manner. Understanding of and commitment to a strength based and solution-oriented approach.

Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Ability to follow direction and make decisions within the parameters of the job.

Additional Requirements:



Valid Class 5 license is mandatory

Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check

Direct Service Responsibilities:



To build relationships and provide support to participants.

To empower participants to advocate for themselves and to advocate on their behalf when necessary.

To assist participants living in our transitional housing to access and connect to community resources that will help meet their basic needs and assist them in becoming self-sufficient.

To coach and mentor participants in basic life skills.

To plan and facilitate/co-facilitate life skills groups or activities as needed, to provide information, referral, and support to participants as needed.

To act as a role model for participants modeling healthy relationships, boundaries, and communication.

To work collaboratively with the team to support community impacted by the toxic drug-supply. Administer naloxone as needed.

To ensure all transitional houses (Unit/CTP) and grounds are well maintained

Adherence to the Employee Policy and Procedure Manual.

Ensuring that the facilities are well maintained in consultation with the Program Manager and Director of Operations.

Administrative and reporting duties.

Salary Range

: $23-$27 per hour
