As a Transit Public Safety Officer, you will serve as the primary provider of public safety, responsible for the safety and security of all Calgary Transit employees, customers and property by providing a highly visible point of contact for customer information and reassurance by responding to crime and disorder incidents on transit and transit property. Primary duties include:

  • Provide customer service 24 hours a day to Calgary Transit employees, customers and citizens by responding to calls for service, conducting high visibility patrols based on intelligence-based analysis, and to provide reassurance to customers.
  • Enforce Municipal Bylaws and Provincial statutes.
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide assistance to the public.
  • Contribute to community safety by patrolling all quadrants of the city via transit networks; promote public safety and public awareness on issues impacting customer safety.
  • Prepare and give evidence in court: collaborate with and exchange criminal and confidential information with the Calgary Police and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintain the integrity of Calgary Transit\'s fare payment system.
  • Act as an ambassador for Calgary Transit by promoting positive relations with citizens and customers by providing information and assistance.
  • Educate and inform about the safety and security of Transit to the public, employees, schools and Calgary Police School Resource Officers and Community Resource Officers.





Qualifications
  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED) with course related work and at least 5 years of related experience; OR a 1 year certificate with at least 3 years of experience; OR a 2 year diploma with at least 1 year of experience; OR a degree and less than 1 year experience.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver\'s Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Eligible to hold the appointments of a Community Peace Officer Level 1 and Bylaw Enforcement Officer.
  • Applicants must not have a criminal conviction for which a pardon has not been granted.
  • Training and/or certifications in conflict resolution, mediation or negotiation are considered to be assets.
  • Demonstrated ability to mediate conflict situations with the public, the ability to build strong partnerships and trust within the community, and the ability to follow clearly defined policies and procedures.


Pre-employment Requirements
  • Completion and assessment of a pre-employment Psychological Assessment Inventory (PAI).
  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator\'s permit.
  • Applicants will complete a written communication proficiency test.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
  • Applicants must meet the provincial standard on the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE), Correctional Officer Physical Aptitude test (COPAT), Police Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT) or Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (APREP) physical fitness test prior to consideration.
Note: Successful applicants will be required to complete a comprehensive training program to hold a Community Peace Officer (Level 1) appointment.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $42.09 - 56.27 per hour
Days of Work: 24/7 shift work comprising of
rotating day, afternoon and night shifts including
weekends and statutory holidays. Shifts are 10.5
hours with start times of 0500, 1430 and 2000 hrs.


Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
