Transit Operator
serving both Trail and Castlegar, BC. Our operators play a vital role in providing safe, reliable, and customer-focused transportation services that help people get where they need to go--every day.
As a casual operator, you'll receive hands-on training and have the flexibility to work across both
Conventional Transit
and
HandyDART (Paratransit)
services, filling in for full-time drivers during vacations, sick leaves, and other coverage needs.
Although this is a casual position, we're looking for candidates with
full weekday and Saturday availability
. Operators may receive close to full-time equivalent hours, depending on service demand and coverage requirements.
Wage:
$25.64/hour when operating a light-duty bus (HandyDART or Paratransit)
$30.66/hour when operating conventional transit
Training pay: 70% of applicable wage ($21.46/hour conventional, $17.94/hour HandyDART)
Hours of Work: Casual - hours will vary based on operational needs. Casual Operators may be assigned to shifts in either Trail or Castlegar to provide coverage for vacation relief, medical leave, or other absences.
Knowledge and Experience:
Valid BC Class 2 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement
Clean Driver's Abstract
Previous experience operating commercial or passenger vehicles preferred
Knowledge of defensive driving and passenger safety procedures
Must pass medical, drug, and alcohol screening as required
Familiarity with transit operations in both urban and rural settings an asset

Physical and mental ability to perform the duties of the position
Key Accountabilities:
Safely operate assigned transit vehicles on scheduled routes in Trail and Castlegar in compliance with BC Motor Vehicle Regulations and company policies
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any defects promptly
Provide courteous, professional customer service, including assisting passengers with mobility devices and fare inquiries
Maintain radio contact with dispatch, report incidents or service interruptions, and follow instructions promptly
Keep vehicles clean, fueled, and secured at the end of each shift
Adhere to company safety, environmental, and conduct policies
Assist with training and support fellow drivers as required
