The Opportunity





We are seeking two (2) Tram Drivers Seasonal who will be employed based on seasonal demands and is subject to layoff at the end of the season. The Tram operates from May to mid-October, weather permitting. This position has variable hours to meet seasonal requirements. The tram operates inside the Zoo, shuttling visitors on a pre-set route and schedule under the direction of the Director, Operations.


Responsibilities




Adhere and comply with all APC policies, safety regulations and safe work practices that will ensure a safe work environment. Participate in staff training programs where required. Maintain a professional image while working and provide extraordinary experiences to our park visitors while preforming daily work activities. Adhere and comply with the APC Tram Driver script at all times while engaging the visitors and answering all questions. Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and visitors. Collaborate and work alongside APC teams, including providing direction and oversight of volunteers working within your department. Perform a mechanical check and walk around to ensure the good working order of the tram prior to operations and request maintenance as required. Complete daily log sheets; identify any maintenance required. Ensure tram runs and follows the pre-set schedule. Assist guests on-site as required and ensures excellent customer service is provided. Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to work effectively with a diverse population. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Qualifications and Experience




Must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License and have a safe driving record. Will be subject to Child Abuse Registry Check and a Safe Driving Record Check. A high school diploma and/or GED equivalent. Basic technology and computer skills. Experience driving large vehicles and the ability to safely drive in a crowded environment. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Knowledge of the layout of Assiniboine Park Zoo would be an asset.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions




Good manual dexterity, excellent eyesight and observation skills are required at all times. High level of concentration to ensure accuracy of safe public transport, taking into consideration personal/public safety. Must be able to perform work outdoors in all types of weather. Combination of sitting, standing, pushing, and lifting, for extended periods. Physically capable of assisting public and persons with disabilities on and off the tram. Noise exposure from operations, mechanical equipment and animal vocalizations. Exposure to strong scents from animals and some chemical products. Contact with plants and animals which may cause allergic reactions.
