Summary
We are seeking an experienced and licensed Plumber to join our team as a Training Supervisor. This role is vital in ensuring that we maintain our reputation as the premier provider of plumbing and drain cleaning services. The Training Supervisor will contribute significantly to our mission by delivering high-quality service to our valued customers through effective training processes of current apprentices, plumbers and future trainees.
Responsibilities
Training & Development
Design, implement, and continuously improve training programs for plumbing and drain cleaning technicians
Develop structured onboarding programs for new hires, apprentices, and junior technicians
Create training materials including manuals, SOPs, videos, safety guides, and assessment tools
Conduct classroom, hands-on, and field-based training sessions
Evaluate trainee performance and provide ongoing coaching and correctivefeedback
Ensure technicians achieve required skill levels before independent field deployment
Technical Standards & Best Practices
Establish and maintain standardized plumbing and drain cleaning procedures
Train technicians on proper use of tools and equipment (e.g., drain machines, jetters, cameras, locating equipment)
Stay current on plumbing codes, regulations, and industry best practices and integrate them into training
Promote consistent diagnostic, repair, and service methodologies across the team
Safety & Compliance
Train and enforce workplace safety standards, including PPE use and hazard awareness
Ensure compliance with local, provincial/state, and federal plumbing and safety regulations
Conduct safety briefings, audits, and incident reviews
Maintain safety documentation and certification records
Quality Control & Performance Monitoring
Conduct field ride-alongs and job site evaluations to assess technician performance
Identify skill gaps and recommend additional training or remediation
Monitor service quality, workmanship, and customer satisfaction related to technician performance
Collaborate with operations and management to address performance issues
Apprenticeship & Career Development
Support apprenticeship programs and licensing requirements
Mentor apprentices and junior staff toward certification and careerprogression
Help define career pathways, skill milestones, and promotion criteria
Assist technicians with exam preparation and continuing education
Collaboration & Leadership
Work closely with operations managers, dispatch, and service leadership to align training with business needs
Act as a technical subject matter expert and resource for field staff
Lead by example, promoting professionalism, accountability, and companyvalues
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and competency evaluations
Track training effectiveness and report progress to management
Recommend tools, equipment, or training investments based on field needs
Equipment & Resource Management
Ensure training tools and equipment are maintained and used correctly
Assist in evaluating new tools, technologies, and training methods
Coordinate with vendors or manufacturers for specialized training when required
Qualifications
Secondary school completion.
Red Seal plumbing or gas fitting trade qualification.
2 years of management experience.
2 years of training experience.
4 years of customer service experience.
Strong communication and computer processing skills.
Strong ability to solve problems related to this positions' expectations.
Willingness to work in a team and supportive environment.
Proven experience in plumbing, with a strong understanding of plumbing systems, products, and installation techniques.
Knowledge of local plumbing codes and safety regulations.
