Position: Trainer (Saskatoon Light and Power)Division: Utilities and EnvironmentDepartment: Saskatoon Light & PowerTerm: 1 Permanent Full Time position available.Closing Date: 01/31/2025Labour Group: IBEW 319Posting: 3957Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Operations Superintendent (Training & Safety), this position develops, implements, conducts, and maintains various training programs and manuals related to equipment operation and safety; assumes a leading role in improving operating standards and operator skills.Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops and updates training material for new and current courses including manuals, presentations, and exams for use in classroom instruction.
  • Conducts classroom instruction and practical training for internal and external employees of Saskatoon Light & Power. Which include power mobile equipment, new equipment, annual recertification, occupational health and safety act and regulations requirements, and other training as required.
  • Works closely with the Records Management Technician to meet certification deadlines, schedules and updating training material.
  • Acts as the crew lead while supervising trainees during classroom and practical experience.
  • Participates in training and assessments of Powerline Technician and Power Electrician apprentices and pre-apprentices.
  • Develops, uses and ensures adherence to proper work procedures, safety standards, construction standards and other specifications.
  • Assists with the maintenance of our critical tool inspection program, and routinely inspects training and critical tool equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition.
  • Conducts follow-up assessments to formal training programs to check operators' skills.
  • Conducts one-on-one practical training where operators require additional training. Conducts research under the direction of the Operational Superintendent (Training & Safety).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation, Training and Experience Requirements:
  • Grade 12 education.
  • Possession of an unrestricted Saskatchewan Journeyman Electrician Certificate or Powerline Technician Certificate.
  • Two years' experience as a Journeyman in an electric utility.
  • Possession of, or ability to successfully complete within 6 months after date of hire, a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Possession of, or ability to successfully complete within 6 months after date of hire, train the trainer certificate for Power Mobile Equipment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties outside under varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to pass a computer proficiency exam.
  • Other relevant combinations of experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
  • Considerable knowledge of an Electrical Utility practices and procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of provincial labour and safety legislation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with all employees.
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and administer classroom and practical training sessions.
  • Skill in the operation of office equipment, including Microsoft Office suite.
