We are currently hiring for a Traffic Engineering Team Lead who will play a leadership role within our Transportation Division. Reporting to the Traffic and Road Safety Engineering Manager, the incumbent will perform complex technical work related to managing the safe and efficient flow of multi-modal traffic throughout the city. Surrey has a population of almost 600,000 and continues to grow by approximately 1000 per month, leading to a rewarding and challenging transportation career in Surrey. Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and direct the work of a small professional team consisting of an engineer, technologists, and co-op students. Respond to sensitive traffic matters to the public and elected representatives, conduct presentations to the public and stakeholders, and liaise with partners. Support the establishment of priorities and development of workplans for the team. Keep abreast of best practices in urban and rural multi-modal traffic engineering and transportation design, evaluate applicability to Surrey, and work to identify opportunities to progress adoption. Lead or oversee projects such as the development of specifications and standard drawings for signage and pavement markings, and an overhaul of Surrey\xe2\x80\x99s traffic calming program. Manage project selection and scoping for traffic engineering projects such as crosswalks, traffic signals, traffic calmingmeasures, curb extensions, traffic circles, pavement markings, and more. Provide traffic engineering recommendations for project selection and the development of terms of reference for transportation capital projects. Oversee the capital and land development design review process for the team. Support other groups in the Transportation Division and across the City with traffic engineering expertise. Qualifications
You possess a Civil Engineering Degree and a minimum of 7-10 years related experience in traffic or transportation engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Engineering Licensee (Eng. L.) with Engineering and Geoscientists of British Columbia. Directly related experience within the public sector and/or working as a Consultant on municipal transportation projects is required. A valid and unrestricted driver\xe2\x80\x99s license is required.
The successful incumbent will have: In-depth knowledge and expertise in urban and rural multi-modal traffic engineering best practices Excellent oral and written communication skills A strong customer-service mindset Effective leadership skills to supervise and mentor staff Effective interpersonal skills and be able to build and maintain relationships with members of the team, external stakeholders (e.g. ICBC, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, police, School District), and other City departments.
