We are seeking a vigilant and responsible Safety Manager for the following : develop, implement, and oversee our health and safety programs, focusing on preventing accidents, ensuring regulatory compliance (like OSHA/WCB), conducting risk assessments, delivering training, investigating incidents, and fostering a strong safety culture through leadership and communication.
Responsibilities & Skills
Due to the nature of this role, you MUST be familiar with the Nova Scotia Temporary Workplace Traffic Control Manual AND be able to demonstrate this.
This role also comes with a company vehicle as your duties will take you all over the province.
Conduct new employee safety orientations and arranging additional training as necessary
Relevant safety experience in an industrial/unionized environment ideally within the Construction Industry considered an asset.
A detail-oriented focus with strong analytical expertise
Exceptional time management and organizational skills coupled with proven ability to work well in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) with management and peers
Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently
Understanding of environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements
Understanding of emergency management requirements
Strong organizational and coordination skills along with ability to coordinate multiple requirements (i.e. processes, activities, projects, emergency response procedures, etc.) simultaneously
Strong administrative skills along with ability to maintain and report accurate data
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to exercise good judgment
Able to work independently but provide strong support to the team as and when requested
Self-Starter with the ability to work towards success with minimal supervision
2 plus years of safety experience in the construction industry, including a managerial background would be an asset.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office programs
Frequent trips to be expected on the different sites across all of Nova Scotia
COR Certification an asset.
Assist Temporary Workplace Signers with Hazard Assessments
Conduct health & safety audits and inspections to assess the effectiveness of the Company Safety Program while identifying any areas for improvement
Recommend corrective actions and follow up to ensure resolution of identified issues
Investigation and timely reporting of all incidents/accidents (personal injury, property damage, near misses, etc.)
Organize and facilitate regular toolbox talks
Participate in monthly Joint Health & Safety meetings and effective communication of safety information to managers and crews
Organize emergency preparedness policy and procedure (emergency prevention, preparedness, and response)
Assist in managing employee's return to work program on site to ensure employee recovery and return to work
Additional duties as assigned
