This position works in the Dispatch organizational unit. This is routine traffic control work requiring physical effort at the lead hand level. An incumbent leads and participates in the work of a small group of staff directing the movement of drivers, pedestrians and workers to a safe route around temporary construction work zone sites, emergencies or special events; prepares traffic management plans and layouts; responds to questions and complaints from motorists, pedestrians, and workers. Work is carried out with minimal supervision in accordance with established and well-defined procedures. Work performance is reviewed by a supervisor in terms of conformance with established standards and effective services rendered. Performs related work as required.


Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 plus sound related experience including experience supervising the work of others; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The successful candidate will also have sound knowledge of applicable traffic laws and requirements, safety precautions, and standards applicable to the work performed, as well as sound knowledge of the Traffic Management Manual for Work on Roadways. This role requires the ability to supervise and review the work of a small group of staff, prepare traffic management plans and layouts, and follow traffic requirements, regulations, and safety procedures. A Class 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia and BC Construction Safety Association (BCCSA) approved Traffic Control Person (TCP) Certification are required.
