This position works in the Dispatch organizational unit. This is routine traffic control work requiring physical effort. An incumbent directs the movement of drivers, pedestrians and workers to a safe route around temporary construction work zone sites, emergencies or special events; sets up and takes down traffic control equipment; meets traffic control safety requirements; provides information and responds to questions from the public regarding traffic direction, alternate traffic routes and directions. After initial instructions by a supervisor, work is carried out with minimal direction. Work performance is reviewed frequently to ensure conformance to procedures, adherence to special instructions and to assess service rendered to the public. Performs related work as required.



Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 plus some related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Working knowledge of applicable traffic laws and requirements, safety precautions and standards applicable to the work performed; of the Traffic Management Manual for Work on Roadways. Ability to follow traffic management plans and layouts, regulations and safety procedures related to the work performed; deal firmly but tactfully with the public and to exercise sound judgement and discretion in the performance of duties; answer enquiries relating to work performed; physically perform the work under varying weather conditions; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; drive a truck safely and skillfully. Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia and BC Construction Safety Association (BCCSA) approved Traffic Control Person (TCP) Certification are required.
