Current Opportunity
Our client is a successful international company based in Europe that is significantly expanding its footprint in Canada with the launch of its own proprietary products as well as producing many OTC/BTC store brand products that serve the Canadian market.
They are searching for an experienced trade sales professional who can help take their business to the next level in Canada, with customer & stakeholder engagement, and communication & influence being some of the post important responsibilities of this role.
The successful candidate will be a full-time employee directly with our client company - Vanguard is acting as a recruiter for this position.
Key Responsibilities
1. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
Building strong relationships with physicians (GPs, Ob/Gyns, Hematologists), pharmacists, and key opinion leaders.
Tailoring solutions to address healthcare provider and patient needs.
Partnering with internal cross-functional teams (medical, marketing, regulatory).
2. Communication & Influence
Excellent presentation and negotiation skills.
Ability to engage in high-level scientific dialogue while maintaining commercial focus.
Clear, persuasive communication in both English and (French a bonus).
3. Strategic Sales & Business Acumen
Understanding reimbursement frameworks, formularies, and Canadian healthcare market dynamics.
Setting and achieving sales targets and quotas aligned with corporate objectives.
Conduct market research and competitor analysis to refine sales approaches.
Budget management (samples, promotional activities, CHE events).
Forecast market trends and adjust strategies accordingly.
4. Scientific & Product Knowledge
In-depth understanding of product line, therapeutic areas, and treatment guidelines.
Ability to translate complex scientific data into clear, value-driven messaging.
Staying up-to-date with Health Canada regulations and compliance requirements.
5. Regulatory & Compliance Awareness
Knowledge of PAAB (Pharmaceutical Advertising Advisory Board) standards and Innovative Medicines Canada Code of Ethical Practices.
Ensuring sales activities and promotional efforts are compliant with Canadian laws and industry codes.
6. Adaptability & Resilience
Navigating a fast-changing marketplace, competitive pressures, and evolving regulations.
Leading teams through growth and maintaining performance under pressure.
Embracing digital sales tools and virtual customer engagement.
What We Are Looking For
Education
: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required.
Career Experience
:
+ at least 10 years of experience in OTC/BTC healthcare products
+ a career that demonstrates taking on roles of expanded and increasing responsibility
+ familiarity with the Canadian regulatory environment re OTC/BTC healthcare products
+ ideally an intimate knowledge of the wholesalers, distributors, and retail pharmacy chains and independent pharmacies that comprise the OTC/BTC healthcare products business in Canada
+ successful experience at "selling in" to major chains at the corporate level
Leadership
: Proven success in managing diverse sales teams, driving motivation, and maintaining strong customer coverage.
Skills
: Excellent communication, organizational abilities, and a strong customer focus.
Language
: Bilingual (French/English) an asset.
Travel
: Frequent travel for coaching, conferences, meetings required. Overnight travel projected in the future.
