With the rail industry continuing to grow, we are looking for experienced individuals in the electrical and civil construction fields.Unionized position$37.34 - 40.33 /Hour, Benefits, Pension, Vacation, as well as lots of room for growthPosition SummaryReporting to the Foreman or designate, the Operator performs a variety of tasks related to the operation of heavy construction and maintenance of way equipment in the construction and maintenance of track.Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Operates Excavators, Backhoes, Skid Steers, and other heavy equipment
  • Operates heavy construction equipment to move, load or unload materials.
  • Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures;
  • Installs equipment or attachments on machinery or related structures;
  • Performs equipment safety, maintenance checks and routine repairs;
  • Repairs and maintains equipment, making emergency adjustments as necessary;
  • Signals directions or warnings to coworkers;
  • Coordinates machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members;
  • Locates underground services, such as pipes, wires, prior to beginning work;
  • Takes actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines other equipment, other workers, and falling objects;
  • Keeps records of material and equipment usage and problems encountered;
  • Pushes other equipment when extra traction or assistance if required;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent;
  • Minimum one year experience operating excavators, backhoes in a construction environment;
  • Valid AZ Driver\'s License and a clean driver\'s license;
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions; read and interpret document such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, construction specifications, and procedure manuals;
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safety requirements and procedures;
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background checks including drug screening.
  • Willing to travel across ontario
  • Willing to work nights
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Standing and walking around the project site
  • Frequent bending, lifting, digging, shoveling and moving of objects on site;
  • Loud noise
  • Field environment and subject to all weather conditions;
  • Working in and around live commuter trains, high voltage, confined space, safety sensitive cabling
  • Day, evening and weekend shift work
