HECTOR HERITAGE QUAY AND SHIP HECTOR Tourism Manager REPORTS TO: Board Chairperson Position mandate \xc2\xb7 Work with the Ship Hector Society to Develop, grow and preserve the replica Ship Hector and its Interpretive Centre. Specific responsibilities The tourism manager has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

  • Selecting, hiring, training and scheduling staff members based on their qualifications and experience levels
  • Maintaining knowledge about current trends in industry practices, laws, regulations, and technology in order to ensure compliance with standards
  • Establishing relationships with travel suppliers such as tour bus companies, cruise lines, hotels, etc.
  • Managing daily operations of facility, including developing budgets, and creating and overseeing marketing efforts
  • Managing the marketing and promotion of tourism services offered by the Hector Heritage Quay (website and social media accounts)
  • Reviewing and scheduling tour reservations, vessel bookings and developing new tour operator partnerships
  • Developing strategies to increase tourism to the area through promotion of attractions, accommodations, events, or other offerings
  • Identifying potential problems within our organization and developing solutions to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction
  • Supporting administration of fundraising activities
Other tasks include:
  • maintaining statistical and financial records
  • Investigating and publicizing visitor attractions and ensuring information held is current.
Some evening, weekend and public holiday work may be required during peak tourist seasons. Key skills for tourism manager

  • Developing heritage attractions to enhance and increase visitor access
  • Undertaking customer surveys and assessing the results.
\xc3\x98 Site supervision as required \xc3\x98 Attend Board of Directors meetings as required \xc3\x98 Other duties as required Reporting structure \xc2\xb7 This position will forward a monthly written report to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors. Additional information or documentation may be required. Required Education and Experience \xc2\xb7 5+ years experience in tourism management role. Experience in managing others, budget management, event management, sales, and community engagement considered an asset.
