Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION The City of Orillia has an opening for the part-time, contract position of Tourism Information Officer in the Business Development, Tourism and Modernization Division of the Corporate Services department. DUTIES

  • Promote the destination of Orillia to increase visitation and economic impact for local businesses and the community.
  • Provide information and visitor services to tourists in Orillia.
  • Attend festivals, events and attractions weekly to engage with visitors.
  • Update and manage the City of Orillia\xe2\x80\x99s visitor information webpage and social media accounts.
  • Capture photos and videos of local festivals, events and attractions.
  • Work with the Manager of Tourism and Special Events to execute the social media strategy to engage with current and future visitors to the area, and to implement the City\xe2\x80\x99s Tourism Strategic Action Plan.
  • Monitor, track and publish social media posts on behalf of Visit Orillia.
  • Coordinate special events as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • University/College student working towards a diploma/degree, or a recent graduate of a University/College diploma/degree, in tourism, business, marketing, public relations, economic development or related discipline.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to market and promote a location as a place to visit, live, and invest/do business.
  • Excellent public relation skills with proven ability to build effective working relationships with all stakeholders including industry and government officials, community leaders, members of the public and staff.
  • Strong computer skills using MS Office applications, email and the internet. Experience using web content management software.
  • Proficient in use of social media, including content creation and posting to platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Hootsuite. Experience tracking social media analytics and measuring impact.
  • Photography and videography experience is considered an asset.
  • Must possess a valid class \xe2\x80\x98G\xe2\x80\x99 Ontario driver\xe2\x80\x99s license in good standing with access to a reliable vehicle.
  • An acceptable Criminal Record Check is required for this position prior to commencement date, at the incumbent\xe2\x80\x99s expense.
Compensation for this position is $16.25 to $17.07 per hour. Hours of work will vary and will include evenings and weekends. Applications will be accepted until June 16, 2023 at noon.
