The Canadian Light Source (CLS) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions, working on everything from dinosaur skins to mine remediation and from cancer treatments to cutting-edge electronics.
The Canadian Light Source has an opportunity for post-secondary students to work up to 10 hours per week, on a casual basis, as an outreach student/tour guide. We are looking for a diverse team of students who are passionate about science to share the research conducted at our facility with the public. This position is for the fall, spring, and summer terms. There is opportunity for this position to continue beyond one year as many of our students chose to stay on as Tour Guides over multiple years of study.
As members of the Outreach team, reporting to the Communications Coordinator and as part of the Executive Support Office, Outreach Students provide tours, highlighting the range and depth of CLS research, and also assist with occasional educational and public events. We are looking for students with a flexible schedule who are available to work primarily during business hours on weekdays (and during the occasional evening or weekend). Students typically work 4-7 hours per month. During your first month, you would spend about 17 hours on training.
This position offers flexible work hours that accommodate your schedule. You can select which tours you lead based on your availability. Most tours take place during business hours on weekdays.
