About us Bird Island Tours is a small family business in Cape Breton, NS. We run daily boat tours to see puffins to two nearby islands. Over 50 years operating. Our work environment includes:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Tour Guide to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sharing their knowledge of the area with visitors and be able to provide an engaging and informative tour experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the captain in leading tours, providing information about the local area, and answering any questions visitors may have. We are looking for someone who is friendly, outgoing, and able to interact with people from all walks of life. Working Conditions

• 6 days / week, approx. 37 hrs / wk
• This job is in rural Cape Breton, in an area with no bus service. Reliable transportation is a requirement.
• Usually work with direct supervision
• Semi-outdoors work, inside a covered boat, even when raining
• Reports to: Boat Tour Captain

Responsibilities:

• Greet visitors and provide information about the area.
• Ensure the safety of visitors by monitoring their activities.
• Answer questions from visitors about the area.
• Assist visitors with any needs they may have during their tour.
• Aid the Tour Boat Captain with narrating the nature tour.
• Tell stories and teach tourists about puffins, eagles, seals and other wildlife on the islands.
• Talk to customers, answer questions, help them out
• Care for the passengers while on tour.
• Assist Captain in Emergency procedures
• Do some boat cleaning chores, example vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning windows, etc.

Knowledge and Skills

• Well spoken, ability to memorize speeches
• Teamwork ability is important
• Customer service, more specifically tourism related is an asset
• Some birding knowledge is an asset
• Know a second language either French or German is an asset.
• Willing to take, or have taken a Marine Emergency Duties course, 4-day in-person course. Paid for by us.
