in underground utilities construction, you'll lead the team in installing sewer, storm, and utility lines. Your day starts with safety checks, then you'll coordinate pipe alignment and depth using laser levels and other tools. You'll assist with lifting large pipes, manage machinery, and ensure trench stability. It's a hands-on role with plenty of problem-solving, teamwork, and working with cutting-edge tech. Wage is aligned and determined with experience, up to $38/hour. This position also qualifies for a $2,000 sign-on bonus, payable upon successful completion of the probationary period
Job Responsibilities
Report any formal issues/incidences to Foreman
Prepare, load and help labourers gather tools required for the day
Assist crew members in the ditch by watching slopes, rolling lumps of dirt, and shifting ditch walls
Utilize and prepare all tools required in the ditch.
Remains at the respective post at all times
Act as the main communication point between labourers, pipe layers and foreman
Hook up and crane tools into the ditch
Assists in loading/unloading of ditch/site protection (fencing/barricades) and setup
Act as the main watchpoint for hazards, ladders, slopes, etc.
Measuring for proper height of batter boards, and continuously ensuring they are level
Direct manpower and assets as required
Ability to correctly mentor junior crew members
Demonstrates ability to protect work area with correct signage, barricades, and fencing
Understands encroachment limitations/distances when working near overhead/underground utilities
Understands excavator right of ways
Understands correct rigging requirements, including cables, shackles, and tie points
Correctly centers loads to be lifted into the ditch
Can read blueprints, drawings, and grade sheets
Assist in acquiring HI and shooting eye level
Qualifications
Underground Utility and Earthworks construction experience are required.
High attention to detail is required.
Pay to be determined by skill and experience.
Ensure compliance with all Company policies, OH & S Legislation, and WCB reporting procedures.
Understand and maintain quality and production standards and work to achieve established production goals.
Physically able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly as required in the construction environment.
Must have your own transportation.
Must have own steel-toes safety boots.
