Water & Sewer Workers

--including both a

Topman and a Skilled Pipe Layer

Position Overview

Water & Sewer Workers are responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground water and sewer infrastructure. This includes both hands-on labour in trenches and safe operation of heavy equipment to support project completion.

Key Responsibilities

Topman

Guide and direct excavation to ensure proper trench depth, alignment, and safety. Set up, check, and maintain pipe laser and grade controls for accurate installation. Provide line and grade to pipe layers during installation of water, sanitary, and storm systems. Monitor trench conditions and communicate with equipment operators to avoid hazards and protect existing utilities. Inspect bedding and backfill placement to ensure proper compaction and support. Maintain a clean and organized trench area and ensure safe access/egress. Support the pipe crew and operators with tools, materials, and measurements as required.

Skilled Pipe Layer

Install water, sanitary, and storm sewer pipes, fittings, and structures according to specifications and grade. Align, level, and join pipe sections using lasers, levels, and other layout tools. Ensure proper bedding and compaction around installed pipe systems. Cut and modify pipe as needed to achieve proper fit and connections. Coordinate with topman and equipment operators to maintain safe and productive workflow. Perform leak tests, inspections, and quality checks on installed systems. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe work environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

General:

Previous experience in water and sewer installation or civil construction preferred. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Strong commitment to safety and teamwork. Physically fit with ability to perform manual labour in trench and ground conditions. Valid Class 5 driver's license (clean abstract preferred). Safety tickets an asset (First Aid, CSTS, Ground Disturbance, Confined Space, WHMIS).

regarding drugs and alcohol on all job sites.

Employees must

not be under the influence

of drugs or alcohol while on duty. If an employee is

suspected of being under the influence

, they will be

removed from the worksite immediately

and issued a

first and final warning

. Any

repeat occurrence will result in termination

of employment.
