Point Hope Maritime, a full-service shipyard strategically located on the harbour in Victoria, BC has an exciting and immediate opening for a Tools and Equipment Coordinator in Victoria, BC.





Reporting to the Manager - Purchasing, Equipment, & Logistics, the Tools and Equipment Coordinator is responsible for the management, maintenance, and control of all tools and equipment used across Point Hope Maritime's ship repair and maintenance operations. This position ensures that tools and equipment, both company-owned and rented, are properly maintained, tracked, and available when and where they are needed to support ongoing projects. The Coordinator plays a key role in cost control, safety compliance, and operational efficiency by ensuring tools and equipment are assigned to active projects, on-hire/off-hire schedules are effectively managed, and all assets are accounted for and in safe and effective working order.

Hours of Work: regularly 40 hours per week



Hourly Rate: $34.00

Responsibilities:




Maintain an organized and efficient tool crib and equipment storage areas to support ship repair and production operations. Issue and receive tools and equipment, ensuring all transactions are accurately logged and charged to the correct project or department. Manage both company-owned and rented equipment, ensuring assets are properly assigned to projects where they are actively in use. Coordinate equipment on-hire and off-hire processes to control costs while maintaining readiness for production needs. Inspect tools and equipment upon issue and return to verify condition, safety, and operability. Perform small routine maintenance and minor repairs on tools and light equipment (e.g., pneumatic tools, welding machines, portable pumps, etc.) to ensure they remain in safe, working condition. Coordinate calibration, servicing, and major repairs through internal maintenance teams or approved vendors. Maintain accurate inventory and asset tracking using the company's tool and equipment management system; support audits and resolve discrepancies promptly. Manage consumable tool items (e.g., drill bits, welding tips, cutting tools) and coordinate restocking with Procurement. Support development and enforcement of tool and equipment control procedures to minimize loss, theft, or misuse. Collaborate with Project Managers, Chargehands and Procurement to forecast tool and equipment requirements for upcoming jobs. Ensure all tools and equipment meet safety standards and are inspected in accordance with ISO, regulatory and customer requirements. Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of all tool crib and equipment storage areas.




Education and Experience:




High school diploma or GED required; technical, mechanical, or trade school training preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a tool crib, warehouse, or equipment coordination role in an industrial, marine, or shipyard setting using tool management software. Experience performing maintenance and minor repairs on hand tools and light industrial or marine equipment preferred.



Qualifications & Skills:




Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities with attention to detail. Proficiency with inventory or asset management systems (experience with ERP or CMMS systems preferred). Working knowledge of industrial tools and marine equipment such as welders, compressors, pumps, and rigging gear. Strong communication and coordination skills across multiple departments. Understanding of project-based cost control and equipment utilization principles. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Ability to troubleshoot and perform minor mechanical or electrical repairs safely. Physically capable of lifting or handling items up to 50 lbs and working in a shipyard environment when needed. Computer proficiency (MS Office, email, data entry) Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)



Requirements:




Must have a current and valid class 5 driver's license Must be eligible to work in Canada



Work Environment:





Based primarily in the tool crib and equipment storage areas within the shipyard. Requires periodic visits to vessels, production areas and alternate ship repair locations. Exposure to typical shipyard conditions including noise, weather, and heavy industrial activity. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
