Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled
Tool & Die Maker
to join our production support team. This role is essential in creating, modifying, and repairing custom tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges with precision. The ideal candidate will have experience working with various metals and plastics, strong blueprint-reading abilities, and expertise in machining and assembly techniques.
The Tool & Die Maker will support manufacturing by producing high-quality tools and models critical to production accuracy, efficiency, and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and specifications for tooling and prototypes.
Plan work processes and prepare sketches or templates as required.
Set up and operate a variety of conventional machine tools (mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, etc.).
Shape, cut, bore, grind, and finish workpieces to exact specifications.
Measure and verify parts using micrometers, calipers, and electronic instruments.
Assemble and disassemble jigs, dies, and fixtures using hand tools.
Machine and assemble castings and materials to create precision models and tools.
Repair, modify, and improve tools and fixtures used in production.
Apply knowledge of machining allowances, materials, grain direction, and bend allowances.
Maintain equipment (change blades, add coolant, oil, etc.) and ensure proper machine feeds and speeds.
Participate in troubleshooting and continuous improvement of tooling processes.
Maintain a safe and organized workspace and comply with all safety standards.
Qualifications/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Completion of a 4- or 5-year Tool & Die apprenticeship program
OROver five years of experience in the trade plus industry training courses (required for certification eligibility).
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, mylars, and blueprints.
Proficient in the use of machine tools and precision measuring equipment.
Strong understanding of metals, alloys, plastics, and their behaviors (e.g., contraction/expansion).
Familiarity with layout, pattern making, and forming operations.
Mechanical aptitude and strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
