About the Role
Reporting to the Tooling Manager, this is an early-career engineering opportunity for individuals looking to build hands-on experience in tooling, manufacturing processes, and new product launches.
The Tooling Developer will work closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to support tooling design, process development, and production readiness. This role offers strong mentorship, exposure to the full product lifecycle, and long-term career development within engineering.
What You'll Be Learning & Working On
Supporting tooling design and manufacturability for new and existing products
Gaining hands-on exposure to molding processes and tooling technologies
Participating in tool trials, prototype builds, and production launches
Learning how tooling costs, cycle times, and quality targets are established
Collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and external tool shops
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
1+ year of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (co-op, internship, or full-time experience all considered)
Foundational understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, or machining concepts
Exposure to 2D/3D CAD software is an asset (training and development supported)
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office
Strong curiosity, willingness to learn, and problem-solving mindset
Ability to work well independently and within a team environment
Clear communication skills and comfort working across departments
Key Responsibilities
Assist in reviewing product designs to support effective tool design
Work with senior engineers and designers to ensure parts are manufacturable
Support tooling quotations by helping estimate process times and assumptions
Participate in tool trials, process development, PPAP, and production start-ups
Help document molding processes to meet cycle time, quality, and performance targets
Support evaluation of design changes for tooling and process impact
Track and report process development progress, risks, and opportunities for improvement
Assist in defining tooling and equipment requirements, including tonnage, cooling, and core sequences
Contribute to standard tooling and machine specifications
Follow established engineering standards, safety requirements, and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned
Physical & Work Environment
Combination of office and production floor exposure
Moderate to occasionally loud noise levels on the shop floor
Ability to stand, bend, and lift light materials (up to 10 lbs regularly; up to 50 lbs occasionally)
Visual and manual dexterity suitable for engineering and computer-based work
