Plasman is currently seeking a new member to join our Global Headquarters team as a(n):
Tooling Design Engineer, Coating
This position offers a compensation rate of $77,000 - $90,000 CDN, dependent on skills and experience.
This posting is for an existing, currently vacant position within Plasman.
Reporting to the Paint Design & Estimating Manager, the Tooling Design Engineer will work with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and plant personnel to ensure rack and carrier designs are functional, cost-effective, and meet safety, ergonomic, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop rack and carrier solutions for paint applications from concept through final release.
Create technical drawings, part-mapping visuals, and supporting documentation to assist Quality, Operations, and supplier communication.
Support estimating activities by preparing quotations for paint, masking, de-masking, and secondary operations.
Participate in feasibility reviews and provide technical input for program planning, cost analysis, and design optimization.
Collaborate with Engineering, Program Management, Sales, Estimating, and Plant Operations to ensure designs meet functional, ergonomic, and safety requirements.
Liaise with suppliers and Purchasing on RFQs, prototype builds, design changes, and first-off approvals.
Maintain and update rack and carrier design standards, lessons learned, and related technical and quote documentation.
Ensure all designs comply with internal standards, ergonomics, health & safety, and legislative requirements.
Travel to paint plants as required to support design implementation, validations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide guidance and support to plant-level personnel on design issues, process improvements, and problem-solving.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience We're Looking For
Post-secondary education in Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience in tooling, rack, carrier, or fixture design within a manufacturing environment; automotive or coating experience is an asset.
Working knowledge of paint processes or demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply process requirements.
Proficiency with CAD design tools (Keycreator preferred) and the ability to produce clear, accurate technical drawings.
Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers.
