As a world leader in the design and manufacturing industry, Active Dynamics is seeking an eager and enthusiastic experienced Tool / CAD Designer to join our successful Toronto team immediately. We are looking for a talent with solid professional skills in the manufacturing.

This role is primarily responsible for designing and developing jigs, fixtures for machinery and automated equipment and gauges, and tools for assembly of components in support of production activity. This position will develop designs within required timelines that accurately meet customer expectations and follow project specifications.

This position reports to the Process Development Manager.

What you will be doing:

  • Design and develop bending tools, end-forming tools, stamping tools, welding jigs (manual and automated), Checking fixtures, gauges and supporting tools for assembly of components in support of production activity
  • Create 3D parametric models of Tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges using Creo
  • Supervise the complete tooling required to produce a particular part(s) to specifications through development of failure analysis, design reviews, initial trials, and process development
  • Support Tools and jigs design process for both in-house and AEC joint ventures & subsidiarie
  • Develop Bill of materials and detailed assembly and component drawings for issuance to the fabrication team and order any special; check the accuracy of drawings, material selection, machining techniques, finishes, etc.
  • Implement GD&T and key product characteristic control features for components and assemblies. Optimize production efficiency with strategic designs accounting for operations including welding.
  • Design tools for in-house equipment to create bends, end forms, notches, and other product features Develop and create economical and easy to assemble mechanical designs using Creo; designs will entail complete machines including pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic components
  • Prepare detailed concepts; Compose estimates for design labor, cycle times, and mechanical purchases
  • Monitor and control tool development process from concept to release for production proces
  • Review internal & external drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, dimensions, etc.
  • Present and communicate concepts/designs to internal project management and team members as well as customer reviews as required
  • Ensure compliance with applicable specifications and standards
  • Support multiple projects at different stage of maturity
  • Communicate & coordinate with all other departments & vendors
  • Create and maintain a standard work document and library
  • Research customer requirements and communicate with vendors for technical info and specifications
  • Perform engineering calculations as required
  • Work alongside Purchasing Team & suppliers to examine component specifications, pricing, and lead times
  • Participate in cross functional APQP meetings to provide input in DFM and GDT analysis, PFMEA, control plans, process capability studies, DOE\'s, poka-yoke, error proof plans, root cause analysis, lessons learned
  • Capable of reading and evaluating CMM reports, quality inspection data, capability reports to provide feedback on process (tooling, equipment) changes required to achieve product capability as per internal and customer standards
  • Maintain an open issues matrix for assigned projects and tasks and ensure timely completion as agreed with the direct manager
  • Support the implementation of best practices for the department and the development, monitoring, and application of KPI\xe2\x80\x99s (productivity, cost, quality, safety)
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required
What you bring along:
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
  • P. Eng. designation from PEO desirable
  • At least 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in tooling, weld fixture design & automation
  • At least 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in designing and developing bending tools, end-forming tools, stamping tools, welding jigs (manual and automated), checking fixtures, gauges and supporting tools for assembly of components in support of production activity
  • Proficient with Creo Parametric
  • Basic to medium level understanding in GD&T, per ASME Y14.5 2009
  • Working knowledge of different machining techniques
  • Capable of multi-tasking as they may be required to support multiple projects at different stages of maturity
  • Highly organized with attention to detail
  • Team player who thrives in a fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent mathematical and mechanical aptitude
  • Sound understanding of SQC & SPC methods and techniques
  • Intermediate level expertise in MS Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote)
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Able to work under extreme demands and tight schedules
  • Able to accept directions and change directions as required
  • Excellent English language, communication, and presentation skills (both verbal and written)
  • Basic understanding of WHMIS, IMDS, Ergonomics, Healthy and Safety regulations
