The Thrift Store Team Lead is a full time position that oversees the delivery of a dignifying shopping experience in alignment with The Mustard Seed's vision, mission, and values. With an eye towards the Thrift Store's culture, a primary focus for the Team Lead will be on maintaining an inviting and supportive environment for staff, volunteers, and guests. The Lead will be tasked with coaching and empowering staff & volunteers to meet sales targets. With attention to seasonal trends, retail best practices, and product availability, the Team Lead will oversee product selection, merchandising, and marketing to drive Thrift Store traffic and sales.

Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. & Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




Oversee the day-to-day operations of The Mustard Seed Thrift Store including opening/closing procedures, cash out, bank deposits, and reporting; Direct merchandising, pricing, and store layout decisions according to trends, best practices, and sales history; Planning specific sales for the month; Curating events for the store. Parking Lot Sale, National Thrift Store Day, etc; Creating partnerships with individuals and/or organizations that enhance our visibility and open the store to other markets; Provide excellent customer service while delivering a pleasant shopping experience; Display strong customer and sales skills; Manage customer concerns and complaints; Manage the Online Store. Using Shopify account, posting pictures, etc; Posting of merchandise, sales, and events on social media; Ordering necessary materials. Labels, tags, receipt paper, anything needed for merchandising and store function; Provide support to staff, donors, volunteers, community participants, and other guests; Train, empower and support staff & volunteers towards the achievement of daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals; Prepare staff schedule. Approve timesheets and days off; Engage in loss prevention procedures; Collaborate with The Donation Centre, Volunteer Services, and Communications. Assist as requested; Abide by all Health and Safety protocols and procedures (ex. incident reports, near misses), and mandatory training courses (NVCI, Safe Talk, First Aid).




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS




Minimum 2 years experience in a retail environment, ideally with Key Holder responsibilities; Experience working within the culture of the inner city and/or with people experiencing poverty or homelessness is an asset; Experience in managing volunteers is an asset; Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills; Excellent customer service, conflict resolution and organizational skills; Computer and Data Entry Skills required (MS Office Suite); Experience with Shopify and Square POS an asset; Team player, who works collaboratively and has a 'teachable spirit;" Empathetic towards, and ability to communicate with, individuals facing mental health, addictions, chronic illness, homelessness, poverty and related challenges.




WORKING CONDITIONS




Physical effort: moderate, periods of cleaning, sitting, standing, walking, indoors and outdoors (predominantly working indoors); Ability to lift up to 35 pounds to sort, pack and move items; This position is often fast paced and requires a moderate amount of mental effort to analyze information and problem solve; Must be able to respond appropriately to intense situations, provide conflict resolution, work directly with clients at risk; Navigating interactions with challenging clients who may exhibit unpredictable behavior, including swearing, anger, and the possibility of becoming aggressive.
