Your Opportunity:

The incumbent works as a member of the Allied Health and Specialty Services team and provides services to clients living within Supportive Living. The main duties include the implementation of rehabilitation programs and services as directed by the Supervising Therapist and Supportive Living Manager. The individual will also be required to monitor the effectiveness of assigned tasks, be involved in equipment maintenance and provision, support rehabilitation goals regarding individual and group treatment in the areas of both physical and mental health and provide input into the ongoing development of rehabilitation services. Contributes to the delivery of various rehabilitation services to maximize client functioning and independence, by supporting the following as directed by the Supervising Therapist: equipment training, provision and trial, exercise programming, cognitive retraining, communication skill development, group activity (e.g. exercise, cognition, social). Minor repair, installation, adjustment and cleaning of Supportive Living equipment including wheelchairs and walkers etc. Assists Supervising Therapists to facilitate the recovery process for individuals with addiction and/or mental health concerns.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered. Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be a graduate of a minimum 16-month post-secondary rehabilitation therapy assistant training program. Knowledge and understanding of the nature of physical and occupational therapy disciplines, the rehabilitation process and how it relates to client functioning in the community setting. Current CPR certification of at least Basic Rescuer Level is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend instructions in English. Ability to prioritize and organize workload. Ability to work effectively in a team setting. Basic knowledge of various health conditions (mental health, dementia, brain injury, physical disabilities etc.). Experience in the rehabilitation of adults and seniors with various health needs, disabilities and mental health needs is required. Knowledge and understanding of common mental health diagnoses. Understanding of short term, functional and goal directed rehabilitation in a community setting. Well-developed problem-solving skills to facilitate implementation of treatment activities. Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge and understanding of communication related dysfunction and associated treatments an asset. Associate membership with national association is preferred.
