Theme 5 addresses the clinical elements of the UME curriculum and is divided into two curriculum committees, Introduction to Clinical Medicine (Years 1 and 2) and Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics (Years 3 and 4).
In Phase 1 (Years 1 and 2), the Theme 5 curriculum focuses on communication skills, components of health history and physical examination of body systems, as well as foundational skills in clinical reasoning. This curriculum is delivered through a variety of educational sessions:
Structured Clinical Skills (SCS) sessions
Clinical labs
Whole group sessions (WGS)
+ including Person-Centred Medicine (PCM) sessions
Clinical Reasoning sessions
Medicine in Practice (MiP) sessions
