The Opportunity





We're looking for a

Delivery Driver

who can represent Thayer Lumber with professionalism, safety, and care.



In this role, you will safely transport building materials, lumber, custom crates, pallets, and other products to residential, commercial, and industrial customers across the Sault and area. You'll be a key link in ensuring deliveries are completed accurately, safely, and on time, supporting the quality and service our customers depend on. Key Responsibilities




1. Safety, Legal & Compliance




Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report defects immediately. Follow OHSA, WSIB, WHMIS, and MTO regulations at all times. Ensure loads are properly secured and compliant with load-securement standards. Observe CVOR and Hours-of-Service requirements and all traffic laws. Adapt driving for weather, road, or site conditions to maintain safe operations.

2. Load Build & Securement




Verify pick tickets and inspect products before loading. Build balanced, secure loads using proper strapping, edge guards, and coverings. Segregate and secure heat-treated (HT/IPPC) materials as required. Perform load checks in transit and adjust securement as needed. Document any shortages, damages, or irregularities.

3. Delivery Execution & Customer Service




Confirm drop locations and follow site-specific delivery rules. Unload materials safely using forklifts or manual handling, as authorized. Ensure materials are placed neatly, securely, and respectfully on customer sites. Represent Thayer Lumber professionally, maintaining courteous communication. Escalate access, safety, or property-protection concerns immediately.

4. Documentation & Records




Capture Proof of Delivery (POD) with photos and signatures for every stop. Reconcile Bills of Lading and packing lists. Record ISPM-15 stamp details and maintain traceability documentation. Report nonconformances (short/over/damaged) through established processes. Submit all documents and reports at the end of each shift.

5. Vehicle Care & Asset Management




Keep truck interiors and exteriors clean and organized. Complete fueling and fluid checks as required. Follow preventive maintenance schedules and report service needs promptly. Secure all tools, equipment, and straps when not in use.

6. Communication & Teamwork




Participate in daily huddles and provide ETAs, updates, and delivery exceptions. Work closely with yard and shipping teams to support efficient routing and loading. Assist with material staging, wrapping, and yard operations when not in transit. Support continuous improvement and contribute to a positive workplace culture.

7. Housekeeping & 5S




Maintain a clean truck cab, box, and staging area. Return unused dunnage, tools, and securement equipment to storage. Keep POD packets, inspection logs, and paperwork organized for daily submission. Participate actively in 5S and housekeeping initiatives.



What You Bring




Valid

Ontario DZ Driver's License

with a clean abstract. Commercial driving experience preferred. Knowledge of load securement standards and vehicle safety requirements. Forklift certification an asset. Ability to read pick tickets, Bills of Lading, and basic delivery drawings. Strong customer service and communication skills. Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. (occasionally 75 lbs. with assistance). Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Reliable, safety-minded, and attentive to detail.
