The Position
Redeemer University invites applications for a tenure-track position in English Writing starting July 2026. The successful applicant will be the program lead for the Writing stream of the BA English, providing leadership for the curriculum and guiding students into the writing life. The candidate will have an active, ongoing publication record and will serve the university community through participation in committees, governance, and the like. The position does have some flexibility in terms of teaching load and responsibilities.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
The ideal candidate will have:
a vibrant Christian faith that informs his or her writing practice and pedagogy. Having some knowledge of or background in the Reformed Christian tradition is an asset.
a PhD in Writing, Creative Writing, Rhetoric and Composition, English, or an MFA in Writing, Creative Writing, or English. A PhD, MFA, or MA in a related field with sufficient professional experience will also be considered.
a track record of excellence in teaching writing at the undergraduate level.
several years of experience in writing, whether professional or technical writing, communications, or creative writing, and a network of industry connections that could be used for internships or post-graduation opportunities.
an active scholarly, professional, or creative program in her or his area of expertise.
The English Writing stream offers students exposure to a range of genres and mediums for writing including creative writing, journalism, and expository writing. Graduates of the program have gone on to professional and technical writing, creative writing, and communications work, so some comfort with a variety of styles of writing is an asset. Although the primary teaching responsibilities will be in the English Writing program, an ability to teach in Communications Studies or the Core Curriculum is also an asset.
The Application Process
As a liberal arts and sciences university rooted in the Reformed tradition of Christianity, we seek candidates committed to this framework. Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching quality, the names of three individuals who have agreed to provide letters of reference should the applicant advance to a later stage of the process.
In addition to these materials, applicants must include a 1-page to 2-page document describing their own Christian faith commitment and practice, its alignment with Redeemer's mission and its impact on their academic and professional work. A range of qualifications will be evaluated, including distinguishing characteristics that demonstrate congruence with Redeemer's identity as a university in the Protestant and particularly Reformed Christian tradition.
