We are currently seeking a dedicated and professional Tenant Support Worker to join our team.
Position Overview
Our Tenant Support Worker plays a key role in helping our tenants overcome any housing challenges, reduce evictions, and create stronger communities.
The Tenant Support Worker works closely with tenants to address social, financial and housing-related challenges. This role involves assisting tenants with day-to-day housing issues, connecting them to resources, and ensuring compliance with tenancy agreements and city by-laws.
The Tenant Support Worker's goal is to prevent eviction, support tenant well-being, and to help maintain safe, sanitary housing conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Tenant Support & Advocacy
Provide one-on-one support to tenants facing challenges with housing to prevent eviction.
Assist tenants in accessing community resources, financial aid and social services.
Work with tenants to resolve conflicts, including encouraging, respectful and cordial relationships within the neighboring community.
Support tenants in maintaining a clean and safe living environment.
Creating informative brochures regarding housing and make quarterly newsletters for the website.
Utility & Financial Assistance Support
Monitor water and hydro utility accounts for overdue balances or disconnection notices.
Contact utility providers on behalf of tenants to obtain meter readings, confirm payment arrangements and address outstanding arrears.
Connect tenants to organizations that provide financial assistance for utility bills.
Housing Standards & By-Law Compliance
Collaborate with the Maintenance Supervisor on issues such as housing damages, clutters, hoarding, overcrowding and yard maintenance (grass, weeds, garbage, abandoned vehicles, snow and ice).
Work with tenants who have received notices from the City of Winnipeg regarding Livability By-Laws.
Assist in preparing tenants for inspections and re-inspections.
Qualifications
Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
Knowledge of community resources and support services in Winnipeg
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a collaborative team
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook (mandatory)
Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
Working Conditions
This position involves a mix of office work, home visits to our tenants and community outreach. You will also be required to attend some community meetings to meet with other organizations to discuss current issues and to gain information that can help our tenants with their housing needs.
