Reporting to the Director of Operations, the role of the Tenant Support Worker will be to provide a value added service that creates efficiency and synergy in the provision of supportive property management for Right at Home Housing Society (RAHHS). The Tenant Support Worker will oversee the primary aspects of the organization's tenant support services provided within the full scope of buildings owned and managed by RAHHS. The Tenant Support Worker may be required to oversee a small portfolio of buildings during periods of staff shortages in order to administer leases and ensure tenants are abiding by all responsibilities outlined in such agreements.

Key responsibilities



Housing Manager Support:

Work as a team with Housing Managers, and be delegated tasks that improve delivery of services, and ensure tenants have the opportunity to remain housed with RAHHS. Activities include: Collecting rents, acting and following up on payment plans when arrears occur Delivering notices as needed, at the direction of the Housing Manager Work closely with the Housing Manager to provide information and assistance to tenants to meet their obligations (paying rent, signing leases, etc.) Liaise with Live-in Caretaker to ensure Health and Safety, tenant issues (including conflict, need for support services, and emerging issues and incidents) are dealt with effectively Take part in units' assessment (move-in/out inspection, other inspections) As per direction from the Housing Manager, inspect, or help inspect units and perform wellness checks on tenants Support the Housing Manager with finding tenants alternative housing reflective with lifestyle changes, or supporting the eviction process as needed Liaise with community partners to help support tenants Report any building maintenance issues Participate in the organization's (RAHHS) various employee meetings as needed Provide reports to staff regarding activities related to tenant support
Case Management

Identify (usually with the aid of the Housing Manager) tenants that need structured support Build case management plans, and act on them accordingly Create and work to ensure behavior contracts, and payment contracts are upheld, in order to keep tenants housed Develop and utilize effective tools that demonstrate progress and outcomes Link the support into Yardi in order to create and provide reports that demonstrate work done and outcomes Build and support development and implementation of 'shared case management ' with external service providers who are supporting RAHHS tenants Adhere to necessary confidentiality and release protocols Assists tenants in completing paperwork as required Co-ordinate tenants' access to services available on the sites and the community Provide assistance for community events located at the building site, intended for developing neighbourly relationships and connecting tenants with their peers Observe and report any changes in residents' behavior Provide assistance to tenants experiencing pest management problems Provide assistance to tenants experiencing hoarding issues Assist tenants in moving-out/in if needed Mediate disputes among tenants with a view of building good relationships between them. Provide emotional support by talking to residents and listening to their problems and concerns Advise tenants on options and expectations concerning conflict resolution Assist tenants in some light repairs during wellness checks, including, but not limited to: smoke detector battery replacement, light bulb replacement, assisting with bed bug treatment preparation, etc. Report to and involve RAHHS maintenance team as necessary (e.g., damages to unit, preventative maintenance, etc.) Involve third party intervention services when necessary (e.g. crisis intervention for mental health, addictions, EPS, EMS, and Mental Health Crisis Outreach Team, and housing first support teams)
Administrative Tasks as Follows:

Maintain relevant documentation in tenant files Maintain tenant files accordingly, in accordance with RAHHS policy, privacy legislation etc. Prepare a monthly update to the Director of Operations regarding vacancies, arrears, and eviction prevention strategies Assist housing managers with policy interpretation, problem solving, teamwork and conflict resolution As directed by your supervisor, represent the organization externally and build high-level support for its work Maintain relationships with community organizations and service groups to develop partnerships that will provide additional supports to tenants
Other duties may be assigned in this role from time to time as the organization's needs change.

Qualifications



Education and Experience

Minimum education level required: High School Diploma with 3 years of experience working in the community service industry Preferred Education: A post-secondary diploma in the field of social work, psychology, or other related human services Asset: Lived experience that reflects the ability to conduct the requirements of this position

Experience working with vulnerable populations and culturally diverse groups Ability to work with marginalized populations with appropriate sensitivity Knowledge of low-income residents, with experience addressing mental health and addiction issues Knowledge of non-profit organizations, including the non-profit housing sector Ability to distill complex information into everyday language Ability to work well in a team or independently Ability to properly maintain tenant files and correspondence involving tenant issues and concerns, and correspondence involving collaboration with RAHHS management and external service providers. Able to effectively do the job while at the same time remain impartial, fair, respectful, and adhere to legislation and policy involving confidentiality and personal privacy. As well, the employee will conduct oneself in a professional manner when dealing with other human service workers, the RAHHS staff team, and all RAHHS tenants. Good verbal/written communication skills Flexible for hours of work on evenings or weekends Able to prioritize and communicate workloads; work cooperatively with other staff Experience doing casework with vulnerable populations is preferred Knowledge of lease administration and related financial skills Strong computer literacy skills with an ability to troubleshoot technical issues Attention to detail in processes and procedures, especially when performing tasks within a database A Current Criminal Record Check is required A valid driving license and access to a personal vehicle will be required, as this role requires frequent travel between locations

Terms and Conditions



This position is considered a full-time permanent position. You will be expected to work 37.5 hours per week, with a schedule of five days a week Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm as agreed upon by your supervisor. Some flexibility to work weekends and evenings to attend community events and emergencies will be required. You will be compensated on a monthly basis, at an annual salary of $50,000-55,000, with starting wages that commensurate with experience.

Health and dental benefits, as well as RRSP contributions, are offered upon a successful probationary period.
